From the Desk of Mayor Anderton

August was a busy month for our city, full of hard work, hometown pride, and neighbors coming together.

We kicked off our new Hometown Hero banner program this month, honoring local heroes with banners on display around Clay. We also took care of the fallen tree at Wear Cemetery, and I want to thank our Public Works crew for their hard work!

Our 2nd Saturday in Clay cleanup brought volunteers together at Chalkville Elementary, with a big thank you to Centerpoint CERT, Hope Fellowship Church, and Bill McAllister for lending their time and hands to spruce up the campus.

I also had the chance to vote in the special primary election for our U.S. Congressional district, toured the Grace Klein facility alongside some of our wonderful seniors, and was honored to be a guest at a Women's Equality luncheon at The Pines Birmingham. I capped off the month cheering on our Cougars at the CCHS vs. Thompson football game — it doesn't get much better than Clay-Chalkville Football!

City Updates¶

This month we officially launched MuniDocs, making it easier than ever for residents to access city documents online. View the tutorial here. We're also grateful to Representative Danny Garrett for a community service grant that will fund shade structures for the library playground and improvements to the walking trails at Cosby Lake — both projects our residents have been asking for!

The City Council held two meetings and our Finance Committee met for several budget workshops as we continue planning responsibly for Clay's future.
