Keep It Beautiful!

A Guide to Property Maintenance Standards in Our Community¶
Why It Matters¶
Well-maintained properties do more than look good. They protect your investment, support your neighbors’ property values, and help create a community people are proud to call home. When our neighborhoods look their best, everyone benefits — from improved quality of life to increased tax revenue that funds parks, roads, and public services.
What’s Expected¶
The City of Clay has property maintenance regulations designed to maintain neighborhood standards. Key areas include removal of inoperable or unregistered vehicles, keeping yards clear of junk, debris, and refuse, maintaining lawns and vegetation, and ensuring property exteriors are in reasonable repair.
Our Approach¶
The City follows a three-step process: (1) Education — We start by informing residents about the guidelines. (2) Warnings — If needed, we’ll reach out directly. (3) Enforcement — Only as a last resort, after education and outreach have been tried.
How You Can Help¶
Take a walk around your property and look at it through a visitor’s eyes. Address any items that may need attention. If you need assistance or have questions, the City is here to help.
